Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC), through its Community Extension Services Division (CESD), conducted an Introduction to Impact Assessment on October 22-23, 2026, at the NBSC Indigenous Culture and Creative Innovation Hub, attended by extension leaders to strengthen institutional capacity in evaluating the effectiveness, outcomes, and long-term contributions of community extension programs.
The initiative is supported by the College President, Dr. Christie Jean Villanueva-Ganiera, CESE, reflecting the administration’s commitment to strengthening the quality, accountability, and measurable impact of NBSC’s extension services. This institutional support underscores the importance of equipping extension leaders with the knowledge and competencies necessary to demonstrate how community-based initiatives contribute to meaningful and sustainable development.
The training was facilitated by Dr. Maria Teresa M. Fajardo, Director of the Extension and Community Relations Division (ECRD) of USTP-Cagayan de Oro, and Dr. Ray Butch Mahinay, Vice President for Extension and Social Development Services of City College of Cagayan de Oro. Their facilitation provided extension leaders with guidance on the principles and importance of impact assessment in strengthening the effectiveness and long-term outcomes of community extension programs.
The session served as an important preparatory activity to equip extension leaders with foundational knowledge of impact assessment, particularly in determining whether extension projects generate meaningful, measurable changes in the lives of beneficiaries and partner communities. The discussion emphasized the importance of moving beyond documenting activities and counting beneficiaries to assess actual outcomes, changes in community conditions, and the sustainability of interventions. Through impact assessment, extension leaders can better identify effective practices, determine areas for improvement, and generate evidence to guide future program planning and decision-making.
Furthermore, the activity lays the groundwork for more systematic impact evaluation of institutional extension initiatives, supporting evidence-based reporting, informed resource allocation, continuous improvement, and compliance with quality assurance and accreditation requirements. It also reinforces the responsibility of higher education institutions to demonstrate the tangible value and societal impact of their extension programs.
With the support of the College administration and the active participation of extension leaders, NBSC reaffirms its commitment to transforming extension services into evidence-based, responsive, and sustainable interventions that deliver lasting benefits to communities.
